Question Foul?

I remember that play. Price ran into Fyfe and flatened him. Price also fell down a couple of steps later, probably from disorientation caused by his concussion! (Just kidding!!) My guess is that...

By the book it is a dead ball. Are there sub's waiting to enter the game? Did the defense take off down the court? If there are no sub's and no defense trying to set up, I agree with the action. ...

I had this happen at a girls' Frosh game a couple of weeks ago. Only in our case after team B made a basket, both A1 and B1 walked OOB to prevent the ball from rolling away. (This made good sense...

I just had someone ask me where this is in the rule book. Since I didn't have my rule book at work.... Anyone know the reference that requires a coach to play 5 players if available?

Hi Les,

I know you've received numerous email in reference to your article on February 13 on Double Standard for Female Coaches. As a HS basketball official I do not consciously treat female...

Any one called a 7th or 8th grade game lately "by the book" without considering judgement on affects of flow, etc.? How many days did that game take? Or if you called every action that, by the...

Unhappy Call it or Pass?

I've been coached on these to pass on this foul if it didn't affect the play (and on a made basket it does not) unless it is particularly rough or it is time to send a message (e.g., things getting...

Question Administrative Technical or not?

A8 enters the game but is not in the book. The scorekeeper does not catch the problem. Now the quarter ends and all players are at the bench when the scorekeeper finaly wakes up. There has been no...

I have egg on my face. Likely since we cannot determine who requested the timeout, it becomes an inadvertant whistle. Since B1 had the ball, B gets to inbound. If coach A argues about the...

On your first situation, was the ball live? It sounds like it was. Was B1 attempting to start a fight, or acting in a way that would likely lead to a fight? I don't see that in your description. ...

Any "shot" from beyond the 3-point arc is 3 points (NF). Once the ball drops so that there is no possibility of it passing through the basket (i.e., just before it hits the floor and from then on),...

I take issue with number b). The game was not tied, so the T and all associated action is part of the 4th quarter. The results of making one free throw is a tie game. Since there is...

I agree with the concept of ignoring fans, but I have two incidences where my comments to them paid off.

First was CYO a few years ago. There were very few in the gym and someone kept yelling...

I've comment on this before. I don't think it ever wise, and particularly stupid at the varsity level. At other levels various degrees of "emergencies" happen. In my first or second year I became...

If the player...
