I admit, this may sound a little uneducated, but what in the world is "Frontcourt Scoring?" I've watched my share of NCAA ball over the past couple of weeks, and I've only seen it as a statistic in one game -- UConn/MD. They showed it on the screen about three or four different times during the game. What does it mean!?!?

I think it's the designation given to points scored by the "big men" -- forwards and centers. Maybe b/c they're at the "front" of the offense, closest to the basket?

Announcerism. Like "the elbow", "the teardrop", "the trey",
"the charity stripe", "numbers" (man, I hate that one!) and
the oft-heard "we'll be back after this word from our
sponsor".

front court scoring may refer to offensive scoring from a set front court play. as opposed to a steal in the backcourt/midcourt and fastbreak scoring.

Frountcourt scoring refers to the scoring done by the Center and Forwards where as the Backcourt scoring is the guards.

If you ask Billy "Giblethead" Packer, he'll probably tell you it is the number of points a team scored into the basket in its frontcourt, as opposed to the number of points that same team scored into the basket in its backcourt.

If you ask Bill "Aw, that's terrible" Walton, he'll probably tell you that frontcourt scoring is the number of times a player made it with a cheerleader in the courtyard in front of his hotel.

Damn - I misplaced my meds again.

Frontcourt scoring is by the forwards and centers; backcourt scoring is by the guards. (Of course, with a lot of programs, particularly women's programs, going to three-guard offenses, this can be a bit misleading).

But it's specifically different from "Points in the Paint," which can be from anyone in the lane.

That would be correct.
