Question

Anyone know of a penalty clause in the contract between your association and local schools that assess a financial penalty to the school for late changes? Clearly one issue that impacts our scheduling of officials are late game schedule changes by the schools.

If so, I'm interested in knowing the parameters of the clause.
  • How far in advance of the game must a change be made to avoid a penalty?
  • How big is the penalty?
  • Is part of the penalty given to the scheduled officials who have now had their personal schedules yanked around?
Thanks!

In Texas coaches can "scatch" officials. However, if they scratch an official after the official has already been assigned to their game, and that official does not get another assignment, they have to pay the normal fee to that official (in addition to his replacement, of course).

As far as late fees for scheduling mishaps, etc., I don't think that we have anything in place for that...

Under NCHSAA policy, once a game is scheduled and the officials have been booked, the booking agent receives $25 if he has to re-schedule the officials due to a change or postponement.

Once the officials are on their way to a game, they must be paid one half game fee if the game is cancelled by game management prior to the beginning of the game.

If the game is postponed and the officials or booking agent are not notified, then each official will be paid a full game fee.

Here in Utah some schools were recently fined
up to $200 dollars for making late changes because of the
Olympics. The UHSAA said that they've been telling schools for the past 5 years to get the changes in early.
Those who didn't are the ones getting fined.
As far as I know, the officials get none of the fine money,
they just get re-assigned.
