Is the proper mechanic to
1 -take the call as a fly ball chase (as in down the line),
2 - move to fence for possible assist to PU,
3 - stay in place
4 - ???

I know #2 has been discouraged by NCAA, but please ignore that for now.
Please give responses specifying sanction and if different for 3 ump.
I couldn't disagree more strongly. Every NCAA camp, clinic, and evaluation I have seen/heard/participated in makes bracketing a foul ball (unless you have runner/tag up responsibilities; your post doesn't reflect any runners) an absolute priority.
