Is the proper mechanic to
1 -take the call as a fly ball chase (as in down the line),
2 - move to fence for possible assist to PU,
3 - stay in place
4 - ???

I know #2 has been discouraged by NCAA, but please ignore that for now.
Please give responses specifying sanction and if different for 3 ump.
4. PU's call, but...

No runners on, move to an advantageous point to help, if necessary.

If for some reason there is a runner on 3B (3U sys), attempt to communicate with PU in order to take possession of the call

If for some reason it seems the PU may not be able to get where s/he needs to be in time for the call, see sentence above.

Whatever you do, communicate with your partner. Don't assume s/he will assume anything.
