That's why I don't shoot FT's
The crowd (summer or not) has enough to mock me about without seeing me miss free throws. In addition to being generally unprofessional, why give them more ammunition?

Coach, a few thoughts
Someone posted that it is possible/likely that the officials for your game weren't top flight. I agree and so you should approach each game knowing that they are going to miss several things or get...

Interesting perspective here
It would never cross my mind to give the coach an ejection for this one statement. It's an easy T, but then I walk away and report, making any second T one that the whole gym sees.
It just...

In earlier years I would have ignored this
The more I officiate the less I am willing to put up with outrageous behavior. I politely request the coach to stay in their box much more than ever before. I also don't respond if they're just...

I'm sorry if this has been covered already.
If A has the ball and B unintentionally steps on his/her foot to which prevents A from starting or continuing a dribble, what do you got? Is this a...

If a coach is reasonable
Most referee's will listen to a coach who is reasonable. If both coaches felt like the game was out of hand, then it is possible that between periods the coaches could have approached the officials...

Happened this week
We had a JV coach yell "call it both ways" after the first foul on the game's first possession. Now I am morally against calling a foul for the first two minutes, but my partner felt the need to...

OK, you're gone
This was something I experienced my second year of summer ball. I was initially taken aback (for about a second), then gave him a flagrant T and showed him the bench.
The pre-report meeting with...

In Los Angeles
In our unit it is a widely held belief that good female officials advance significantly faster than men. We have seen women officials be picked up to do women's college a lot quicker than men's...

Communication is the key
First of all, congratulations on seeking advice.
I just returned from a varsity camp, where it was painful to see some new refs as well as some seasoned people still not communicating effectively....

Goose, that's hysterical
Thanks for a great laugh on this Friday. I can just picture the scene where your friend talks about his ballbag at a girls game.
I gotta write that into a movie scene.

If you noticed, a lot (two words) of the spelling in this persons posts were shortcuts that teens use in their instant messaging. It saves them time but will ruin the English language.
I've...

Some refs are sensitive about a coach who comes up to them pregame and talks about what has happened in the past or what may happen. If a coach is very very brief with their comments and comes to me...

I've practiced Chuck's logic frequently
By rule it's a foul, but I'd prefer to keep on truckin'.
I used to call that foul a lot, but more veteran officials have told me to just give it to A OOB. And like CMathews said, if anyone of...

I thought blindzebra had a very succinct summation. Girls really do play horizontally; reaching, dribbly around aimlessly, holding the ball out, more bounce passes.
Guys play vertically. I...
