fortunately, it wasnt a tanked judgement call that we all beat ourselves up over, but merely a rules-interp situation that's easily fixed with no sour grapes on either side.

Okay.
Thanks all for the clarification. The final answer to my OP is, "because it's the rule."

2 outs. R1 from 3B is obstructed coming home and is put out at HP. "Dead ball, obstruction, runner is protected to the plate." However, R2 from 1B is continuing on around 2nd into 3B. Overthrow at...

And my take is, I dont feel the ball at the shoulder is to threaten, it's more to communicate "If you take off, I'm ready for you". That's not a play.
Unless she cranks back to throw, the onus is on...

Look back rule
In the past I've read differing opinions of what constitutes "making a play" in regards to a pitcher merely holding the ball at shoulder height.
Play: R1 is 3-4 steps off 3B as (walked) BR trots...

A similar scenario I posted in the past had a batter bunt the ball down, into the soft powder, up in the front corner of the BB, where it comes to a stop...

Nope, it's not the force of the tag that cause the ball to come out (it's not a tag play), in the OP it's the impact of the glove hitting the ground after the out was made on the force play.
On a...

Your scenario reminds me of the bases-loaded, 2-out bunt that settles to a stop on the plate. F2 picks up the ball. Is R1 on 3B called out in the infinitesimal moment of picking the ball up (when it...
