I agree with you, DG.
When it gets to the point where I've called it a forfeit; that's what it is. No more discussion or apologizing on anyone's part is going to change that outcome. Having said...

Your coach friend......

is really going to appreciate you sharing that letter here, Glen.
Is it anybody in my area, or your home port?

Here's what I do with my cap

I use a helmet mask and love it. I walk onto the field wearing my cap, and with my helmet under my arm. When the game starts I hang my cap on the fence, using a bungee cord. This is also quite handy...

Academy has NB 609's

I just bought a new pair of 609's at Academy for $45 plus tax. It would be hard to beat that deal, based on what I'm reading here. FWIW: they feel great, and did from the very first time I wore them.

I think....

the fact that you have't been screamed at yet by a coach is more the result of you're being a relatively new official, than it is the fact that you're black. Do this long enough; it will happen to...

That's what L.L. ball is supposed to be like.

Yes, I think that's the play he's talking about. BU3 didn't hesitate on his siganl of fair ball, and he had a good view of any interference that would've occured. Replays appeared to show that there...

You lost me, Mick

I'm not sure if I'm following you here.
Are you saying that maybe he wasn't qualified to be there?

If it was strictly based on a resume of LL volunteering and service, I know of many fine...

Agreed!!!!! He is obviously a very good umpire, and is there because he deserved to be.
I didn't mean to start a firestorm here and I didn't mean any disrespect to him. If I did that, I apologize...

I wondered about the same thing. I noticed he had a number on his shirt as well (I think it was 6).
Made me wonder if all of the umpires at the regional were numbered, but I don't recall seeing...

Yeah, but he missed one bigtime

The kid that got hit on the hand/bat. He kept him at the plate and rung him up for a strike.
I couldn't really understand his reasoning, but didn't think too much about it until, after the next...

Not a problem with +POS

Brian,
I had no problem with my +POS mask at all. I really liked it, and would go back to it without hesitation, if I had to for a short time.
I bought my helmet after a "friend" took my +POS...

Thumbs up I'm sold on it

After using a +POS ultralite mask for the last 2 years, which I really liked over my previous heavy wire mask, I swtiched to the All Star helmet this year. I wouldn't think of going back to my mask...

"Juicy Fruit"

That line comes from "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest".
The big Indian (Native American) doesn't talk thru the whole movie, and he's thought to be a mute. Jack Nicholson hands him a stick of gum...

You must a real pro, I guess.........

...but I still disagree, which is my right, with your opinion.
No, I don't work MLB, and yes, I work youth ball, and have done it for a long damn time. I'm a very good umpire, who also happens to...

I agree with Striker

Although I don't have a genetic bone disorder, I don't like getting hit needlessly, and that's exactly what some of you (Rich) are setting yourselves up for, and recommending as a good mechanic. If...

ASA will approve the helmet mask....

........as soon as the start selling their own version of it, with the ASA logo emblazoned on it.
Until then, I'll just continue to call my local league's games, using my helmet (and not wearing an...

Also, if I might add to that..............

The umpire is not to call a runner out for missing a base(or to call DEAD BALL for that matter), if there is no appeal by the defense. This is the same for LL and ASA.
He pretty much screwed this...

Thumbs up I tried it and I liked it a lot

I made the switch from a traditional mask to the hockey helmet this year, and I've loved it ever since. If you've got long hair, it's probably not gonna be a good fit for you, but I do have short...

You asked........

.......so here's my opinion.
If it's a true foul tip, it would have to be a live ball in every situation. Otherwise, it would only be a foul ball.
I just can't envision a scenario where a foul...

Unhappy I can almost top that one.....not proud, though.

3 yrs. ago, I'm BU in a Sr. League (15-16) baseball game. 1st batter gets a hit and is at 1B. 2nd batter hits a hard grounder to SS. I'm in B (obviously not deep enough as will soon become apparent)...

Even though the lines are painted...

.....does not necessarily preclude the fact that dust could be sent flying from that line, if a ball hits it.
Granted, it won't be "chalk dust", but minute grass clippings, dirt, and paint residue...

And if LL softball......

...uses the same interpretation of obstruction that LL baseball does, then the fielder must have have possession of the ball prior to blocking the runner's path, as well.
I've got an '03 baseball...

Dear Lou (addendum)

...don't forget to kick dirt on the plate, and also be sure to pick up one of the bases and throw it into (or at least towards) the outfield, on your way to the showers.....
