Thumbs down

Dear Lou Piniella...you are an idiot. You have just gone to the top of my list, way past the players with pathetically huge salaries who play more for money than for the love of the game.

Tonight, Tampa Bay's Ben Grieve struck out looking to end the game, a 4-3 loss to the Yankees. Piniella chews out Grieve in the dugout before they leave the field. Why? Piniella basically says in his postgame conference that Grieve should have argued with the home plate umpire that the pitch was high (it wasn't), and that he should have told the umpire what he thought about the call (it was right). Basically Piniella is saying "if you get rung up, prove to the umpire that he is wrong by arguing with him and yelling at him and making a scene."

Irresponsible, pathetic, classless, and no respect for the game. Nice, Lou, real nice.

Dear Lou (addendum)

...don't forget to kick dirt on the plate, and also be sure to pick up one of the bases and throw it into (or at least towards) the outfield, on your way to the showers.....

I saw the interview. Pathetic. And a terrible example.

To the ump he is wrong???? Does Lou get a cut of the fine money the players pay for getting tossed??? What an idiot! Grieve aint no idiot player, I seen him with the A's, hardcore player...or Senor George would not spend his hard earned bucks on him. Pinella was a good player and does know the game, but......
