Wanted to thank the poster that told the story a few days ago about a coach saying he thought he saw chalk fly when the ball was hit down the line only to find out the lines were painted.
Had this exact same thing happend this past weekend in a state 18U tourney. I was the BU down the first base line. Batter rips a line drive down the third base line just foul. As I was returning to my position down the line the first base coach jokingly says he though he saw chalk when the ball hit. Remembering the post from earlier I said, but coach the lines are painted. Not sure if he really understood what I was telling him though.

Even though the lines are painted...

.....does not necessarily preclude the fact that dust could be sent flying from that line, if a ball hits it.
Granted, it won't be "chalk dust", but minute grass clippings, dirt, and paint residue can all result in the dust that your coach says that he saw.
Just another opinion......
