We whistle in every sub.

You whistle them in, but do you whistle again to resume play?

Oh.

No, not unless there's an appreciable delay.

There's little consistency in this area on endline frontcourt throw-ins, though. Some whistle, some don't. It was downright bizarre when one of my partners over Christmas whistled and the head coach told him that it wasn't a proper mechanic and to please stop it because it throws off his players. I stayed out of that one.

Amusingly, the coach is correct for NFHS.

I know, but claiming it throws off his players was utter nonsense. I found out later this coach was also a varsity-level official before he became a coach and he does stuff like this to try to work officials.

Same guy told me he'd send me the film after the FIRST foul we called, BTW. Good times.

Sounds like grounds for a T. Not sure that I would, but I believe I read from somebody around here that they'd whack a coach for talking about doing something like this.

I hear lots of things from "somebody around here" that I wouldn't do.

A T in this instance is way over the top, imo.

Easy to see how. When I'm supposed to sound my whistle, i.e., after a timeout, sometimes some of the offensive players will start their inbounds play, setting screens, V-cuts, etc. on the whistle, while others will wait for the inbounder to say, "Go", slap the ball, etc. That half second lag time can screw up a good inbounds play, but that's the fault of the players, and coaching staff, not the officials.

Why would you whistle there?

It's an NCAAW mechanic. SO, some do it in HS. It can be a signal to tell the T to raise his/her hand for the throw-in.
