I love to just get on the bike and ride. It's a non impact and non weight bearing exercise, great for joints. Doesn't need a gym full of equipment, simple, and I love it.

I have been working out in the gym too, but I enjoy biking the most for staying in shape.

Swimming is great for cardio, provided you don't swim in short bursts and keep your heart rate up. Also no-impact and great for your joints.

I too do a lot of swimming and running over the summer now that my weekends are free.

My summer season lasts another four weeks though, so I'm still running the floor too.

Stay On This Side Of The Grass ...

Run (actually the "survival shuffle") 1.5 miles every Saturday, Sunday, and holiday. Run (again, the "survival shuffle") an occasional five kilometer race. Kayak two, or three, times a week, usually about a mile paddle each time, although longer for some flatwater races. Some bicycle riding, including a twelve mile race (my only goal is to finish alive).

Are there other races you can enter where the water has hills on it? If so, doing those contests, given the increased resistance, could yield better conditioning.
Just an idea.

Playing Ice Hockey twice a week.
Playing basketball twice a week.
Rebuilding the deck (as my weight training).
Working nights and weekends (after my day job) in the family wedding stuff rental business.

Dropped 15 of the 20 extra pounds (in two months) I have been carrying around for the past year or two.

Man. You young'uns have no idea what it was like in the olden days. We would kayak back, and forth, to school, uphill, both ways. Now you have the new fangled water seeks its own level idea, and have flatwater all the time.

I've been out at sea in conditions such that I couldn't see the horizon due the waves being taller than the boat. So, I could defintley say that there are hills in the water. It would have been quite the challenge to manage those "hills" in a kayak.

Find a 2.5 mile incline like Jerry Rice and run that every day.
