Maybe Joe DeRosa who does not need a tournament resume to get games in future seasons decided that getting 1/3 of your regular fee for Round 1 does not cut it.

Paperwork ??????

Can we just make the assumption that they didn't turn the necessary paperwork back in Oct / Nov by the deadline????

And I think he is a great official. Either way someone said awhile ago, these are not "their assignments" to only have. Someone is always going to be left out for some reason.

Peace

Can you shed some light on this? What type of paperwork needs to be turned in as it relates to the tournament?

Interesting stuff.

If what others are posting in another thread about Adams's thoughts about mobility on the court, I'm not surprised about Burr and especially Hartzell, if that's the reason they're not in. Great officials with great careers, but Hartzell in particular looked actually severely injured the two times I saw him work in person this year.

Here in Connecticut, all high school officials, for all sports, must pass a criminal background check. You can't even apply to join my local basketball association without signing a waiver for a criminal background check, it's actually a part of the application. Schools don't want guys, or gals, that stick up liquor stores, or hijack eighteen wheelers with cigarette shipments, officiating their basketball games. Go figure?

From 1985 to 2004, Burr and Higgins basically made the Final Four almost on a yearly basis. I do not think you will ever see that again.

Interesting that two of the three officials who worked the Illinois/Miami game that had the incorrect out of bounds call in the last minute of the game are working the Iowa/Virginia NIT game tonight.

Just means they can't work tomorrow. Will probably see them later this weekend.

This is a fact? And how come you have "Adams or Evans"?

Ron Groover

I noticed Groover worked last night's regional game even though he didn't work a second game last weekend. I was under the assumption officials were paired down by weekend, so when he didn't work last weekend I figured he was not going to advance. I guess this isn't how it works?

The rounds of 64 & 32 officials are determined before the tournament starts. Sweet 16 and Elite 8 officials get chosen based on their performance the first weekend, whether they worked 2 games or 1 game.
