Question Yet another you make the call for newbies

OK, you new guys. Here's one. NF rules. A technical is called on A1. Coach B want to have one of his players on the bench sub in and shoot the free throws. Is this allowed or does the shooter have to be one of the five players who were on the court when the technical was called? If so, can team B sub if they take a timeout?

No, it must be one of the 5 on the floor. Yes, he may sub in if he takes a TO.

Nope, 8-3 for reference. Any player on the offended team may shoot FTs for a technical.

Any player or eligible substitute may shoot the free throws.

Or players, or substitutes. Two different players can shoot the free throws for a technical foul. And don't forget that this is a situation where the coach can substitute for a starter with no penalty if the technical foul occurs before the jump ball to start the game. Also, remember, that with rare exceptions, you have to sit a tick, but you don't have to play a tick.

Picky picky...

I know that, I didn't plan on letting an ineligible player shoot free throws.

... in a way its all about picking nits. Once you own the fact that these folks are players, and those folks over there not in the game are substitutes, its hard to not be.

To be sure I knew what you meant.

and re: picky picky --- thanks!
