No, I don't think so. We don't have that right or the power to tell the coaches what to do during half-time. I've had coaches make their kids stay out on the floor and practise their shooting at half-time. No rule against it. [/B]
I agree with you JR that we don't have the right/power to TELL them and there isn't any rule to back us up. That is why I said REQUEST. If coach is adamant against your REQUEST, explain the problem. It's OK to practice your SHOOTING, but it is against rules to practice DUNKING. What the heck, it's worth a try. Most coaches may not have a problem with your request. Our association stresses how well we deal with coaches and we have scored very high in this area. It has made our job of officiating easier.
Jack [/B][/QUOTE]Why don't you just go over to to the coaches as soon as you get out in the floor in the pre-game and say "please tell your players not to dunk?".

That rule has been in the book one heckuva long, long time. The coaches know the rule. The players know the rule. Hell, even the fans know the rule. It's a rule that really doesn't have to be analyzed. There's no advantage/disadvantage argument. There's no "game management" issues involved either. It's a plainly written, very simple rule that sez "DON'T DO THAT". Why don't we just Call It instead of making up all kinds of excuses to not call it?

JR, I like that way even better. More direct and to the point.
