I've seen these balks like these in HS ball but never in MLB!

He didn't balk to 2nd base. He balked when he started and stopped his pitching motion to home.

Yeah, I know, but the follow-up move to second made it worth mentioning - if just for fun

Let me have this since I think I was in on the creation of this idea. I posted years ago that a pitcher cannot balk on a move to second: He doesn't have to throw to base, he doesn't have to throw, even if he steps, etc.
That was translated into: It Is Impossible To Balk To Second Base. That's what the poster meant. He didn't balk on his move to second: IIITBTSB. As Tim said: He started a pitch, stopped a pitch, and that IS a balk. |

I suppose if they stay in the stretch and fling the ball across their body. But seriously, the answer is still IIITBTSB, and the answer to this question is distance and direction is inherent in the move to second is it not?

The idea has been part of my balk lecture since the early 70s. The point: There are things you can do when you move toward first that are illegal. NOTHING you can do when you move toward second is illegal. The balk comes on what happens before you move to second.. The balk 99.99% of the time results from the pitcher's starting a pitch and stopping it so he can throw to second. Violagtion of 8.05a. The .01% occurs when the umpire goes to sleep. |

To hell with it. Naturally, I don't want to alienate BSump so mcuh that he might not visit my site (carls brd). But IIITBTSB. I'll make no comment on what the "BS" in his handle stands for. Just kidding, guys. |
