Interference play
R1 and 2 at 2nd and 1st, outs don't matter. Sharply hit ball to the left of F6 who gets tangled with R1 either just before missing the ball or just after it passes her (and wasn't impeded until the contact). I'm PU and BU is staring right at it and makes no call. I wasn't 100% sure that the contact was before the ball got past R1 so I decided it'd be easier to sort out after the play and I didn't call anything either. Once the play was over DC calls time and trots out to my partner. And my partner jogs in, "Did you have obstruction on that play?"
Me: I guess since you didn't have interference we must have but she scored easily anyway. Him: Okay. [Jogs back to position without saying anything to the coach. Coach to me: What explanation did you give him? Me: Coach it was his call, you're welcome to go ask him about it. An inning or 2 later between innings. Partner: I should have called obstruction on that play. Me: Wouldn't have mattered anyway. Him: Yeah, we'd have had a dead ball out. Me: You mean you had interference? Him: Yeah. Me: [goes back behind plate.] So questions: 1. Should I take that interference even though the BU clearly has the better look at the only relevant piece of information? 2. What if it was more obviously int and not questionable? 3. Should I have been more forceful in making sure my partner and I were on the same page? 4. Would you talk to the coach about the call? 5. Anything else about this I did wrong. ________ Vaporizerinfo.Com Last edited by youngump; Mon Sep 19, 2011 at 07:26pm. |

1) No. If your partner has the best look at what matters, go with his call. 2) Yes, if you saw it. 3) Absolutely - you should have talked the play through, agreed on what you guys saw, and made the right call from there. 4) Heck no - if he wants to go talk to partner, he can call time and do just that. Don't ever guess at partner's motives for a call - let him explain for himself. 5) Not that I can tell.
