Amen!
Wait until you see a pitcher with a good curve, or a change up that drops off a table. These pitches really can't be framed well. Gotta call 'em where they pass through the zone.

Right with you Dave. Except the alternating sides. I have found no matter where I go up the third base line F5 seems to want to stand in front of me to take her warm-ups. I really don't care until...

I don't tolerate the F-word at all esp loud enough for the crowd to notice.
I will quietly warn the offender and her coach for other foul language once. It is usually enough. Some players don't...

We will get cooked together
I have used the same mechanic as well. Especially on a sharp hit ball. Definately something to cover at the pregame so the PU isn't 2/3 to first and then trying to cover 3rd as R1 doesn't even...

Great advice on rules differences, mechanics.
Relax is the first thing. Secondly, depending on the schools involved, it might not be much different than 2 good HS varsity teams. I have worked DI...

I agree with mcrowder on this one.
Both ASA and NFHS agree that a fielder must have possesion of a THROWN ball in order to be in the est. basepath of a runner. There doesn't even have to be...

Abosolutely. If that doesn't get his attn, nothing else will.
I have done it and thankfully both times the coach got the message. One could have been the fact their AD arrived at the game moments...

Re: shoes
Tried them. NCAA frowns on patent leather. They don't have any wide shoes in regular leather.

Re: Re: Re: My 2 cents
I believe we agree.
It was not my intention to come across as defensive. I have worked with plenty of umpires who can't tolerate their rule interp being questioned. esp Obstruct/Interfer.
They...

Re: My 2 cents
I don't disagree with either of you, my point is if you handle situations properly and practice preventive officating, ejections should be few and far between.

I can't tell from your post if the offensive player caused the ball to roll into the dugout or not. Or if she was in or out of the dogout.
If she did then the runners stop at first and second. ...

Where is the plate umpire?
The plate umpire has the single runner at first in 2 person in the situation described. .
Like I mentioned in my previous post - cover this in the pregame. Some umpires prefer the base umpire in 2...

Proud to say none
I can only speak to FP. I have both umpired and coached.
I have never allowed any coach enough rope to hang him/herself.
In NFHS, I have restricted an overly excited coach or 2 to the bench. ...

It depends
Interesting discussion. In my career working HS, ASA and NCAA, the answer is it depends.
This is something to cover in your pregame. if the line isn't marked, the plate umpire has to take it to...
