Correction

R3 advancing home. I did tell B1 to move and in the process he got into the way of F2's throw attempting to get R3. The throw was off line and probably would not have retired the runner. I called...

What Should I Have Called?

This might be a HTBT play, but I was calling a FED game last night. F1 throws a wild pitch that bounds toward the third base side on deck circle with a right handed batter at the plate. As the...

Saw this in a FED game last night. Slow ground ball to F6. Ball is going right toward R2 who "freezes" until the ball is about to hit him. He side steps and goes to third. F6, who had not been...

Dump Him

What I do in situations like this is dump the coach the first time he questions me. That way he will know that I am not taking any of his crap in the future. This works for me.

FED game. Runner is coming home at the same time as the relay throw from
F5. For some reason, F1 is up the line about five feet in front of F2. F1 attempts to catch the throw and it glances off...

Good Coaching?

After the inning the coach of the batting team told me that he teaches his players to casually drop the bat in the direction of the ball. He said that the bat often either hits the ball or hinders...

Ignore or not

FED. Batter swings at strike three in the dirt. As F2 is reaching down to pick up the ball, the now discarded bat hits the ball and knocks it a couple of feet away. F2 shifts and retrieves the...

Getting Your Point Across

I had a pitcher who didn't seem to like my strike zone the other night. I called time and moved around to the plate. While cleaning the plate, I told the catcher to go tell his pitcher that if he...

Mask On

I always keep my mask on when dealing with coaches. This comes into play when I sometimes "stumble" into them and bump thier nose with my mask. This usually gets them away from me in a hurry.

...have I seen something like this before. A5 commits her fifth foul. R reports the foul to the scorer. Upon being informed by the table that this is her fifth foul, R tells U so that he can let...

OOO Partner?

After a timeout, the team who is to throw in the ball is exiting their huddle and hustling to the spot for the throw-in. We have not had any trouble throughout the game with them taking too long. ...

I believe that the coach in his original post stated that the umpire told him that the batter did not have to make an attempt to avoid the pitch. At this point, this call ceased to be a judgement...

He really did say it

I was calling with an experienced guy for the first time the other day. The visiting team was winning 6-1 in the top of the seventh and attempted a squeeze play. The hitter missed the bunt and...

Announces

The way my partner bailed me out on this one is that I never said anything during the play. I simply pointed into foul territory. I read 5-1-1-h and it says the ball is dead when an umpire...

I only signaled, but the coach's point was that F7 did not make the throw home because of my signal.

Can anyone give me a reference to explain this? I would like to apologize to the coach if I...
