I've had it!

This week I get an email from my assignor telling me that I did not handle a situation properly. I am about to tell my assigner to stick it.

1. I would never tell an AD the game was sloppy. What did you expect him to say?
2. Is there something you can learn from this?

Yeah wow. I am curious what motivated you to do this as well. Nothing good could come of this. Was the AD supposed to magically make the players better in the 2nd half?

Looks like the good info got edited out. Telling an assigner to stick it is a great way to commit career suicide though!

I agree with Snaqwells. We are not there to comment on the quality of play. That type of a comment to an AD was probably taken as a little unproffesional.

I did my fair share of staring down coaches in my day. From my experience it hurts you more than helps you. Staring down or yelling at coaches takes the official down to the coach's level. We need to stay above the emotional aspect of the game. If the coach is out of line, treat them in a firm, but fair manner. When they get out of line the next time, use the whistle.

If it were me, I'd reflect on the game. Could you have taken care of the coach earlier?

As always, just my $.02.

Ok, so you removed the part about the AD, my 2nd question still stands. When my assigner tells me I did something incorrectly, or could have done it better, I tend to listen. He has a vested interest in making me a better official, so there's no need to take any salt with his advice.

Did he suggest how you could have handled it differently?

Well, if this is an example of your communication skills I can see where you might have a problem.

I'd sit down and craft a response to him telling him exactly what you think of him, get it all out.

Then I'd erase it.
