Mick,
Given the level of ball and, most likely, laid back nature of the game, how about telling her with a smile, "Tell you what: When you're the trail on a last second shot, you go ahead and...

Re: Re: I hope I do not have to say this again.
Balderdash! That's ridiculous. Not in the 4th or 5th grade or so levels we have primarily been talking about.
Lessons? Every single call? I don't know about the other guys, but I'm not talking...

Re: Re: Explaining things.
Rut, I think you're carrying this thing much farther than anyone intended. Of COURSE we're not going to explain everything or take a lot of time doing so, thereby slowing down the game significantly....

Younger kids, I do stop and let them tie the shoe. But for the older levels, play continues unless a whistle causes a dead ball. Once the ball is dead, though, I always wait to put the ball in play...

I agree completely, Hawks Coach! While I seldom do much ball at the lower levels anymore, I do a bunch at this time of year for some AAU tournaments. A couple reasons I enjoy doing these kids' games...

Perhaps, but . . .
The only problem I see with that "rule of thumb" is that the shot clock and 10-second counts do not necessarily start at the same time on a throw-in. The shot clock starts as soon as the ball...

Well, Mark, that was a long way to go (i.e., a lot of reading) to arrive at your point that you feel I shouldn't have spoken with the coach, even briefly, before my game. Personally, I think you're...

You're exactly right, Brian. This brief discussion occured during the first game as my partner and I sat in the corner of the gym, not during the "pre-game" of the game we worked. The coach described...

OK, he went "ballistic" on the call, but not swearing or to the point of deserving a technical. What he did was argue we had told him one thing before the game, when he specifically asked us about...

No such luck, Mick. I don't "play" the system well enough to have the right people know me and get me "in." I have the finals tomorrow night for my district (at least it's a good one), then I'm...

Not that this all actually pertains to basketball, but since I work with deaf youngsters K-12 who rely on sign language, thought I'd throw out my support that sign language is, indeed,...

To eject a player for a flagrant, I think you want to be sure the action was of a particularly severe nature. If the girl had gotten "out of control," that suggests a number of contact...
