They do. It is called referees on the field. They get a chance after every play where a penalty flag is thrown to discuss the enforcement. If they still get it wrong, too bad, it is done. Most sports would become a nightmare if they permitted post event review of decisions in a way that could change the outcome of the game. There are so many judgement calls throughout basketball and football, there really is no sense in letting the review of one play change the result.

Not to mention that he was apparently too busy arguing about the flag being thrown at all.

Court has ruled. http://media2.kjrh.com/html/pdfs/footballdecision.pdf
Not a lawyer, but it seems like a well reasoned decision. See bottom of page 2 in particular. |

That doesn't absolve the crew from this error at all, but some responsibility has to go on the coach.

I just can't believe that with five officials on the field, someone didn't step up and offer the correct enforcement of the penalty. |

I agree with the Court's decision but I do think there should be some kind of review. I would even be willing to accept protests kind of how the NBA does. Not for judgement calls or missed calls. Those are going to happen and it would be too big of a mess to sort out. But here you have an unusual play with an incorrect ruling that clearly impacted the outcome. That's unfair to the losing team. I have no problem if local associations put something in place to lessen the chance of that happening but good luck working that out!
not sure why some of you are hating on the female reporter? |

As I understand most protest procedures, they are predicated upon the team that protests specifically objecting to the rule application at the time it was made -- doesn't sound like that happened here . . .
