I used to take mine off prior to games, then my wife always chided me, " You put that thing back in your nose.“
Then, after just about fileting my finger getting it caught on a valve at work, I don't even wear it anymore. Neither does my wife cuz the diamond looks like it is about to come off. Not that we are a couple of free spirit libertines or anything...

5 sports. Levels from extreme kiddy ball to college. I have NEVER taken off my wedding ring for a game, and it's never even come up, much less become an issue.

No Ring or Forfeit
One of my fondest memories as a young official was working a Rec League game with a grizzled veteran just when the jewelry rule first came in.
Team only had 5 players and one could not get Wedding Ring off. After waiting the requisite 15 minutes he forfeited the game as one team could not start 5 players He was my hero.
