Slapping the backboard in pregame?

In a game I was watching the other night one team when they came out for warmup instad of doing rim jumps formed two lines and run down and they all jump and slap the backboard. They didn't do it super forceful but hard enough to shake the backboard a little. Is this legal?

There is no mention of this in the rulebook that I could ever find. So it is legal. And honestly why would you care? Slapping the backboard does not have the same consequences as dunking the backboard.

Peace

Interesting.

10-3-4b: "A player shall not...intentionally contact the backboard/ring by...intentionally slapping or striking the backboard...while a try or tap is in flight or is touching the backboard or is in the basket or in the cylinder above the basket".

However, the usual pre-game shenanigans that mean a bench technical, 10-4-1i mentions only "Grasping either basket except to prevent injury; dunking or stuffing, or attempting to dunk or stuff a dead ball."

Therefore, when putting those two things together, it seems that Article 3 does not apply to the pregame activities and your high-flying pregame warmer-uppers are ok doing that. Unless they're wrecking stuff--then it's a site administrator issue.

That's off the top of my head.

Or has my attempt at reason missed something else obvious?

Nothing. Only grasping the ring and pulling it down.

Two options:

1) Flagrant T on all players. Declare a forfeit, collect your check, go home.

2) Nothing.

Keep in mind...

With Option 1, it will likely be the last check you collect.

And even if you declared the game a forfeit, collected a cheque, and went home, the PTB that step in and say nope, and play the game, "again".

Is this another way of saying, "Don't be a craftsman who installs and repairs pipes and fixtures and appliances?"

I did not have many options as a spectator. I also didn't have the option to even eat popcorn while they did it as
1. The place doesn't have any. (This should be a flagrant T.)
2. The place doesn't allow food or drinks in the gym. (This should be a T.)

If you see something as a spectator more often than not being ignored or not penalized, then chances are it is not illegal.

And how does a school not have popcorn? Is that possible?

Peace

I've heard of no drinks in a gym... but never seen no popcorn allowed.

That's wrong and I wouldn't stand there and let them bad mouth The United States of America... gentlemen!

Can you have a tap/try during a dead ball? (The ball isn't live during pregame).
