I'd much rather explain to both coaches before we put the ball in play that there are .3 seconds or less and only a tap can score, than have one coach know that there was .3 and we allowed the other team to catch and shoot because the clock operator was a half second slow in starting the clock.

That is exactly what I have done and will continue to do after checking the clock's primary display...."coaches, there are 0.5 seconds left."
