In this economy, you might be able to get away with threatening to fire an employee for it, but I still wouldn't recommend it. Would you fire that same employee if he had a drink at 1:00 am the night before a 7:00 am presentation?

Now, if you've got an employee with a real problem and there's more to it than a drink at lunch, it's a different story.
