Like...Billy Packer? Oops, sorry.

On a side note, did anyone else see Diebler officiate a game then jump right into the booth to announce the second game?

When it comes to rules Billy Packer is the Old School of announcers.

Of course, it's also true that when it comes to rules, Old School is the Billy Packer of officials.

"It's not unusual for him to score above his average..."

well, duh!! He's gotta score above his average about half the time!

I know, not necessarily, but on the average, most players will play above their average about half the time... sheez...

maybe the kid scores 16 points, and the other team steals the ball at half court goes the wrong way, and lays it in, and rather than make a footnote in the book, they actually divide the 2 pts evenly among the 5 players on the floor at the time....

My favorite so far has been Billy Packer (at least I think it was Packer saying it - all the announcers blend together this time of year). Any time a guy picks up 2 fouls early in the game, or 3 before the half, he states that they HAVE to leave the game. With his conviction, he's all but saying that it's a rule that you have to sit once you reach a certain number of fouls with a certain time left - not that coaches pull players voluntarily.

so you didn't hear, "Wendell White needs to come on the floor and expose himself". I think that's gotta be the new acme!

Billy Packer in the UK/Nova game:

"You can't be in the air and call a timeout. You can have posession and be falling out of bounds and call a timeout, but you can't call one if you're in the air."

Right sentiment, totally wrong application.

Apparently radio announcers aren't immune to this, either. Don't know his name, but one guy referred to a "mysterious foul" call on a three point shot as a shot clock expired in the Illinois game. "Illinois played great defense for 34 seconds, and then a mysterious foul call gives the ball back to VA Tech in the corner."
