They say the dumbest things.
 

Since there are so many tournament games, many announcers/analysts are working that normally wouldn't be. Even though the normal guys really say some dumb stuff, these guys are trying to make their mark and are really raising the bar with idiotic comments.
Yesterday one of them was speaking about a fast guard and said something like, "He can go from zero to 60 in .1 (or point something) seconds." Is that the best thing you can come up with to describe a fast/quick player?

Did anyone else hear this or anything else stupid?

not that they don't say stupid things, but I am not buying that they have more than the norm group of morons assigned this week. On any given Saturday there are more games in more locations than right now. They may have more games, but they have 2 games per location don't they? So out of 16 games yesterday, at most there were 8 locations. How many Saturdays have you seen at least 8 different games televised?

Right...but, they also have all the first round games today, so that's another group of announcers...and they aren't travelling, because the ones who announced yesterday have to be at the same location tomorrow...so there are more being used. Some of them yesterday were people I have never heard before - maybe because their games weren't televised out here during the season...anyway, it seemed that there were lots of wrong statements yesterday - announcing fouls on violation calls, or fouls on the wrong player, etc...lots of "Check that, the foul was actually on..." types of comments...got kind of annoying.

Like...Billy Packer? :D Oops, sorry.

On a side note, did anyone else see Diebler officiate a game then jump right into the booth to announce the second game?

When it comes to rules Billy Packer is the Old School of announcers.

Of course, it's also true that when it comes to rules, Old School is the Billy Packer of officials.

I know, not necessarily, but on the average, most players will play above their average about half the time... sheez...

yep you are right Juulie.....you know it would actually be pretty incredible to see a kid averaging 16.4 ppg to actually score right on his average wouldn't it LOL....

even one time hitting his exact average would be incredible!!

maybe the kid scores 16 points, and the other team steals the ball at half court goes the wrong way, and lays it in, and rather than make a footnote in the book, they actually divide the 2 pts evenly among the 5 players on the floor at the time....

I think the OP was suggesting that there are more guys doing nationally publicized games who normally don't. Except for last year of course.

Yesterday, I only had games on in the background and didn't get to pay much attention so I didn't catch any "verbal violations" but I will listen up as it's always fun to yell at the TV and pretend the announcers can hear me.

And he did all this while selling popcorn!!! :eek:

My favorite so far has been Billy Packer (at least I think it was Packer saying it - all the announcers blend together this time of year). Any time a guy picks up 2 fouls early in the game, or 3 before the half, he states that they HAVE to leave the game. With his conviction, he's all but saying that it's a rule that you have to sit once you reach a certain number of fouls with a certain time left - not that coaches pull players voluntarily.
