Per 8-1-2 Free throw administration...
Following a timeout or intermission, the resumption of play procedure may be used to prevent delay. The timer will sound the authorized warning horn and final signal. The administrating official will sound the whistle to indicate play will resume. The ball shall be placed at the disposal o the thrower or placed on the floor and the count shall begin.... The word "may" indicates it's optional to me. I would say unless there is an actual delay that would cause you to place the ball on the floor it's probably unnecessary. (Putting the ball on the floor without a whistle and starting a count would probably be a bad thing to do!!!) However if you are really concerned you could always ask your assignor/association/mentor how they want it done. |

I blow the whistle some of the time, not all of the time. It really depends on the gym, the crowd size and the type of game that is being played. If there is any delay, I will more likely blow the whistle.
Peace
