All MLB standings are based on "Winning Percentage" only. Been that way forever.

Here's the OFFICIAL standings from the Major League Baseball website:

So, um, how games are the Other Guys behind the Evil Empire?

Feel free to use the Official MLB website...

The BoSox aren't any games behind. They are in second place in their division though.

If it'll make you feel any better, note that the MLB standings also show that your beloved Cubbies are all the way up to FOURTH place in their division as of today, even though the fifth-place Brewers have won more games. The good news also is that Prior and Woods are tenatively expected to be back for the playoffs in October now, if the Cubs do happen to make them.

Semantics. They're tied for first. At least until about 5 hrs. from now.

Oh, yea, btw - the vaunted Cubs pitching staff consisting of Prior, Wood and Zambrano have combined for 0 wins so far this season. And how's their overall record compared to the Evil Empire?

(Just this weekend GM Jim Hendry was overheard asking Greg Maddux why he needs more than 12 hrs. of rest in between starts...)

Uhmmm, mick - would that be the same Chicago team that coughed up 2 games to my lowly M's last week? Ouch...

On a side note, there was an interesting article in my local paper last week listing the starting pitchers the Mariners have had to face this year. Yikes - I'm surprised they've won more than 2 or 3 games...

I must say I am quite impressed by by the hospitality of the Fenway crowd. As the game started they were chanting "Yankees luck!"

It seems to be working, end of 4 NY up 3-1.

Tied up, 3-3. Guess Guidry's advice didn't help. He doesn't look at all like I remember him from his pitching days. My memory's just shot, probably.

That was fun. I was glad that Johnny got mostly applause (at least, after he tipped his helmet). Can't believe Ortiz's shot made it out. The wind just killed everything else to the outfield. Can't celebrate too much, tho. Still got 25 more of these to go!

Sorry about the Wings, tho, mick.

You also don't have to worry about those percentage points today either Chuck. Unless of course they give the game back right away.

After going 0 fer 4, I heard Johnny said something like, "I'm still helping the Red Sox win," ...Cute.

I thought the funniest comments came from Doug Mirabelli after the game. He was describing his experiences getting to the ballpark - as of yesterday morning he was in San Diego, a member of the Padres. When he got word of the trade, he hopped in a jet hired by the Red Sox, (approximating here) "and the pilot flew about 1,000 miles an hour...I felt like I was in a New York cab. When we landed, the pilot slammed on the brakes, and we skidded sideways to a stop. I had, like, 6 seatbelts on." He then mentioned he changed into his uniform in the back of the police car on the way from the airport to the ballpark. There must be something about being naked in the back of a police car going 100 miles an hour...
