But only for a while.....maybe......until the next time.

Of course Kerry Wood is now officially done for the year. Right on schedule. Well, maybe a shade late. And it looks like the Rev. Johnny B. is gonna take the hit for all this too, during the All-Star break if the rumors are correct. I can't believe that the G.M. that put this club together is gonna skate though.

Yo, M&M, if it's any consolation, we're laughing at you, not with you.

Nah, I had the whops all the way. When the frogs surrender, they open a bottle of Bordeaux & ask the Germans when they would like dinner served. When the guineas surrender they take to the hills, open a bottle of Chianti & continue the fight. That's what my grandfather told me, who spent most of WW1 & WW2 fighting Germans in the hills of northern Italy.

To answer Chuck's question, I bet what the Italian said rhymed with "Ba Fangul". But he got his moneys worth, that was quite a headbutt.

Twins have won something like 32 of their last 40 and the Tigers are still 8.5 up on them. Looking pretty good out there, Mick!

Chuck,
It's kind of you to notice, but the Twins have invited the Tigers to Minnesota for a bit (3 games 7/28,29,30), after April games of 3 of 3 [Detroit] and May games of 4 of 6 [Detroit].
Back then the Twins (I think) hadn't discovered Liriano [1.93]. And, Santana is still a bad boy [3.04].
It would be cool to see Liriano and Verlander [both rookies] take turns in the same game.

How sad is Prior's season? He is throwing a no-hitter and has to be pulled in the 6th because he just isn't in shape to go deep into games at this point.

The match-ups for Detroit @ Minn :

Fri, Jul 28 8:10 pm EDT Z. Miner vs. F. Liriano
Sat, Jul 29 7:10 pm EDT N. Robertson vs. B. Radke
Sun, Jul 30 2:10 pm EDT J. Bonderman vs. J. Santana

Was it a matter of being in shape, or just a matter of pitch count? I think I heard that he was already over 100 pitches in the 5th. I realize that Dusty doesn't care much about pitch counts, but it seems reasonable to me to take Prior out at that point.

His pitch count was at 103 when he was pulled and that is exactly what I meant by not being in shape. He is just considered too fragile to let him throw 130-140 pitches anymore. Remember back early in his career when Dusty would leave Wood and Prior out there for those kind of numbers? People were saying back then that he was burning out their arms.

Ouch! Another 19-run game for the Yankees. And against the Devil Rays this time.

Sox win in extras with an opposite field grounder from David Ortiz, beating the shift! Love it!! Love it!!!!!

Thumbs up Tar Heel signed.

DETROIT — The Detroit Tigers made pitching news on Friday, announcing that rookie star Justin Verlander will skip his Sunday start and that they've signed first-round draft pick Andrew Miller.

...Miller, who signed a four-year contract, finished 13-2 with a 2.48 ERA in 20 games at North Carolina this season. The lefthander won the Roger Clemens Award as college baseball's top pitcher and was named player of the year by Baseball America and pitcher of the year in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The 6-foot-6, 210-pound junior is North Carolina's all-time strikeout leader with 325. As a freshman and sophomore, Miller was 14-7 and earned second-team All-ACC honors each season.

Andrew Miller wasn't taken first because he was considered to be expecting too much money.

It's gotta be a concern for all of the Tiger's young pitchers. None of them have really pitched close to the 200 or so innings per year that are expected of MLB pitchers. Gotta watch those young arms.

They just keep winning anyway though, don't they?

Hey, I just noticed that the rating for this thread is up to 4 stars. Excellent. Who voted? If you haven't rated it yet, you should; but you should go back few pages and check out the World Cup Beauties that Tony posted for us. That should earn a 5-star rating from any of the guys here!!
