I played HS from 89-93 and we were able to enter the lane upon the release of the ball.

This is a good look for Mark T. DeNucci, Sr. because we can barely see him.

Did I dream this?

Can somebody corroborate my account?

Or positively refute it?

Something does not sound right. I started officiating in 96 and players were allowed to enter the lane that season and I thought the season after. I thought it was the early 2000s when this rule changed? I could be wrong about that latter, but in the 96-97 season the the rule is what it is today.

Peace

The Cretaceous Period ...

Agree.

Regarding restrictions on players in marked lane spaces entering the lane, I'm 99% positive it was "release" in 1996-97, went to "hits" in 1997-98, and went back to "release" in 2014-15.

I'm pretty sure that I had another "hit" period in my forty year career, possibly sometime before 1996-97 (I go back to 1980-81, unfortunately my rulebooks don't).

Was there a previous "hit" period during the Cretaceous Period (1980-81 to 1995-96)?

I am 68 and I have not left the Bonnie' mother's home since Mark and I returned home from Florida on Fri , Mar. 13th. And my family has told me that I am not allowed to leave the house.

Our younger son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter have not left their home except for Andy has only left his house for Air Guard duty and go to the grocery store.

Mark has only left our home to go to the grocery store for himself and us. He brings our groceries and places them inside the garage.

Yes, I should have been scanning all of my old stuff but it was always easier to just climb up into the attic, LOL!

Mark lost the remainder of his college softball schedule on our way back from Florida and his H.S. baseball and softball schedule through the end of April and if I were a betting man I would bet dollars to donuts that the OhioHSAA will cancel the entire Spring Season within the next two weeks. And who knows what the future of the Summer season holds?

I want everyone to stay safe out there. Practice social distancing and hopefully we will all get through this.

MTD, Sr.

I came up with this (below) but it was from before I started officiating.

NFHS 1970-71 Points of Emphasis
Once the free throw starts, i.e., when the ball is placed the disposal of the free thrower, no player may break, with his feet, the vertical plane of any lane or lane space boundary he occupies until the ball touches the ring or backboard, or until the free throw ends.

What was happening between 1980-81 and 1995-96?

Besides this:

Cicadas ...

Sorry to resurrect a six month old thread.

Recent update only for future reference purposes.

Just like 13-year and 17-year periodical cicadas, I'm sure that this will eventually come up again.

Best information I can come up with:

1970-71: Hits
1981: Released.
1993: Hits
1996-97: Released
1997-98: Hits
2014-15: Released
