The ball must fall untouched.

Not true. If it falls untoouched, then it's live and play-on. If it's touched, then the ruling applies.

I don't know....what I read. All I know is that you should probably call intentional drop unless the ball falls untouched and we don't have IFF...in the case of a line drive...it would be tough to turn a cheap double play w/o intentional drop.

I understand. That's why I asked a serious question. JM gave me the answer (that I assume is correct).

As you will have noticed, the intentional drop rule is not restricted to fly balls.

Um - even as YOU describe this, it is not an intentional drop. LETTING it bounce is not an intentional drop. Letting it hit your glove and failing to catch it -- THAT is an intentional drop.

No need to be a smart@$$ - he said, "Pardon my asking" --- how much nicer a way did you want him to ask that? Sheesh.

I think you're mis-reading it. He said that F6 "gloves it" then "opens the glove and plays the bounce"

Depending upon what really happened and who is my partner, 99.9% of the time I would handle this after the game.
**I leave that .1% to a Baseball official I knew that felt as though he had to step on everyone's call just about all the time. I just verbally blasted him in front of both teams one time, and it never happened again in our games. Sometimes you just have to do, what you have to do, to get the point across. **(Not the recommended solution) |

I was speaking to how it would NOT be an intentional drop...and "live ball, play on" type of scenario.

I can see reading it that way. It was the "plays the bounce" part. Guess we need clarification.
