Weird Play in Oakland tonight

Runner on 1B and one out in Bottom 1. Grounder to 2B, runner on 1st stops and 2B chases him back towards 1B where the fielder tags runner with glove but ball in other hand. Fielder then throws to 1B to try to get batter.

Bob Davidson, 1B umpire, apparently rules initial runner safe, but ignores play on batter at 1B. The initial runner than heads for dugout thinking he had been tagged out. Final ruling a DP with Marquez (2B Umpire) making the out call on batter.

Announcers say initial runner out for abandoning the baseline and heading for dugout.

If anyone can download a clip it would be interesting

I am a M's fan and was watching the game... R1 thought he was tagged, ( and he was but only by the glove, the ball was in the other hand..LOL).. so the runner got up and ran toward 2nd....got hit int he back by the ball. I will see about a clip..

How about Tim Tschida strike Zone.. neither team was getting the low strike..

I did not see the play, so I'm not criticizing U1. But if I have R1 safe on a play like this, I'm selling the hell out of it. He'll know he's not out.

The announcers also said he was out of his baseline when hit with the ball going to second...

I will agree with the zone of Tschida - very frustrating to watch...many times my son and I hit the rewind to see where those pitches were...all I can say is that he was consistent...
