In St. Louis, he was Bob Gibson's favorite catcher. If McCarver says something about catching, it's a safe bet that he's right. It's rules and umpiring that he has a problem with.

But according to Bob Gibson, the only thing McCarver knew about pitching was that it was hard to hit.
