I have finally agreed with McCarver

I don't know why this irks me so.

Yesterday, third inning, Yanks-Sawx. Yanks have just broken the ice and are up 1-nil. 2 outs, Damon on second base. A-Rod at bat.

High and tight pitch. Batter ducks, ball hits bat squarely. AR turns, pointing to his shoulder, saying the ball brushed him. Jimmy Joyce signals a huge "FOUL!"

Replays--like they matter--showed the call to be correct.

I wait for Tim McRat to chime in how the umpire is the reincarnation of Torquemada. Instead he iterates my thoughts: (I paraphrase) "Why does a big-time hitter like A-Rod want an HBP here? Doesn't he want to prolong the at-bat and potentially drive in a run in a tight game?"

Of course, Skirt-Rod grounds out meekly to end the frame. He then turns to his 1B coach and makes the same "brushing" movement on his shoulder.

I HATE it when any batter whines. But I was more aghast that TMcC actually said the right thing!

Am I picking nits here by being disgusted with this nancy boy future HoFamer?
