NFHS Questions/Help
Hey Everyone,
I have a few questions and am seeking some advice from my fellow "brothers in blue". Rule Questions: (all rule ref. regard only NFHS rules) (I don't have my rule books with me) 1) If a batted ball gets caught within an infielder's shirt, is it a dead ball? Live? Awards? 2) Same question, but with a thrown ball. *(Also, I believe in fed ball that a thrown ball in the shirt is not possession) 3) If a ball gets lodged inside a fielders glove, can he throw it to make a play? (I know it is legal in MLB but I was unsure in Fed) 4) If you eject a batter while still at bat, does that constitute an out as well? (erase the count, and a new batter) (I would believe so) Advice Needed About Umpire Academy: I am still in college finishing up a dual major in Criminal Justice/Psychology. Currently I was strongly considering going to Jim Evans for the winter. Now with the strike, *(not saying I would be that good) I don’t know if it is the best idea. I know it would be a great experience but I am still undecided… Any tips?

1. dead, 2 bases
2. same 3. no and if he does should be ruled detached equipment, 3 bases 4. no it is not an out, sub would enter and take the count at time of ejection As far as a camp, it depends on where you want to call. If you are going to start out in high school, I would give it some time. Some state organizations may have their own and would take that approach. good luck |

Several friends have done this and it provides a good foundation even if you never work the pro's. Good Luck. |

Go to umpire school now......there will never be a better time to go than now....
At this time in your life you are probably: A. In the best shape of your life.... B. Still in a learning mode (those of us who are doing continuing education can tell you how difficult it is to get back into the learning/study frame of mind.) C. Relatively unencumbered by life...(Wife, Kids, Jobs) D. In the demographic that PBUC prefers......(age) Education is the one thing that no one can take from you....you will be able to take the eperience with you throughout your umpiring career, no matter what level you aspire to... Best of luck Stan . |
