Well, that could have been my emotional response. But we did have an entire game to get through and this was my first game with this guy. I didn't know how he might react and just decided to post-game it.

What's bothersome to me is the reluctance of some umpires to reverse their call when they are provided with information that would allow us to get the call right. Both coaches in this game knew that "we" blew that call. I don't like that it reflected poorly on us as a crew or me as an individual. My partner's comment that I "didn't see anything" was simply a falsehood made to rationalize his refusal to reverse a bad call.

Old school baseball mentality that once you make the call, THAT IS THE CALL, end of story. That was pitiful back then, even more so in today's world
