Nothing authoritative here, but my guess would have something to do with the fact that in slowpitch you have about 10 minutes to decide whether or not to hit the pitch that is coming toward you at a blazing 3 MPH (or so) vs fastpitch where you barely get the words "illegal pitch" out of your mouth before the catcher catches the ball.....
