If the ball's live, they must announce the appeal and tag 1B while holding the ball, or they must tag the runner with the ball (or with the glove that's holding the ball). If the ball is dead, any infielder (including pitcher or catcher) may make the appeal. The appeal must be made before the runner returns to 1B. Calling out "she missed the base" when the ball's dead is good enough for me.

Dave I haven't decided if I should call it from the dugout or the outfield. Apparently, both have really great views! Screw green, it ain't easy being blue! I won't be coming here that much anymore. I might check in now and again. |
