Yeppers, this is a no doubter. Note ball still in hand and position of feet.

ASA and other softball insurance groups should get real

There is no way that this is a replant. A replant leading to a new effective push off. So, ASA and all of the other insurance company groups who falsely put themselves forward as softball experts should get real with respect to what's OK and what's not for pitchers. It is flat out not acceptable for every single umpire to decide for herself what is legal pitching and not legal. But, this is where we are.

Then are you saying this would be a legal pitch? Look very closely at the
pic. Way in front of rubber, slab, whatever, ball still in hand.

Ed had dropped in on us from time to time before. By his previous posts, he seems to be a disgruntled parent/coach who hates ASA. His comments need to be taken in that light - nothing ASA does, says, or is connected to can possibly be good, or even remotely legitimate.

If memory serves, he is from Mike's region of the country, but maybe just a bit farther north up the Eastern Seaboard.

But, I'm going from memory here.

Jennie Finch illegal, too?

Howdy,

I'm new to this forum, having been informed about it when I was looking for some information about plate shoes.

I've spoken to several senior umpire types, UICs, etc., about the legality of what we're seeing in the picture that started this string. The answers have never been specific or clear. I had sent a photo I saved of Jennie Finch pitching for Arizona which looks very similar to the posted photo. I tried attaching it here for comparison. Although it shows as 39 KB on my computer, I got an error message that it "Exceeds forum quota by 38.7 KB."

Anyhoos, I don't know that there will be any specificity regarding this issue anytime soon. Kinda like the government declaring tobacco an illegal drug.

If anyone knows how I can get the Jennie pic posted, I'd be happy to try again.

Ted

Ted,

Welcome to the board.

I wouldn't lose any sleep of trying to get your picture posted. Most of us have a picture of Jennie.....

The reason is that there are no specific answers is because you really cannot call an IP from a still photo.

OK, give me a hint.

Nice pic, but no, nothing to do with softball.

So give me a hint about how to do that. I tried my pic and got that error message.

Thanx [for tips & pic!],

Ted

He's doing a (ahem) "hotlink" (no kidding, that's what it is called). The pic has to be on a web site somewhere and that website has to not block hotlinking. To hotlink to an image, click on this button: at the top of the "post reply" box and enter the URL of the image.
