Illegal---Nah.

The bent knee looks like a replant to me.

Yeppers, this is a no doubter. Note ball still in hand and position of feet. |
ASA and other softball insurance groups should get real
There is no way that this is a replant. A replant leading to a new effective push off. So, ASA and all of the other insurance company groups who falsely put themselves forward as softball experts should get real with respect to what's OK and what's not for pitchers. It is flat out not acceptable for every single umpire to decide for herself what is legal pitching and not legal. But, this is where we are.

pic. Way in front of rubber, slab, whatever, ball still in hand. |

But speaking of that, how can you determine a pitch legal or illegal by a snapshot from above? Even given what you said above - when do you expect her to release the ball? |
Yes, this is a legal pitch
Based on the umpire calls I've seen over the years including ASA Nationals 18A, NSA Nationals 12U, PONY Nationals 12U, this is a legal pitch, no question. Why go from 12 to 18. Because the kid is that good. But, you umpires need to get real. There is absolutely no way that the pitcher in the picture is lllegal. Somewhat about 0.4% of umpires will call this illegal. And on the next identical pitch, they will not call it illegal.

It looks damning, doesn't it ? But, the stop frame doesn't tell you if she replants at this point, or if it is a still frame of her continuing (and, therefore, legal) drag.
Check the video link SRW posts on the question about the "out of box" call; go to 2:10, where Robin Mackin comes in the game. They make her take off her watch and Livestrong, BTW. In my opinion, it is a borderline (therefore legal) drag, at best; I can see no replant in live speed, even the side view during her warm-up. And, here I am, the guy someone on this board calls the ASA person who imagines replants that don't exist. |

If memory serves, he is from Mike's region of the country, but maybe just a bit farther north up the Eastern Seaboard. But, I'm going from memory here. |

Big fan of softball
Actually, Uncle Ed is a big supporter of girls softball. That's why I suggest that ASA totally messed up on the olympics. Tommy, I think you are as ASA fan, so who do you think screwed up wrt the olympics. I think it's ASA. Easton is a fool, but he is a fool following ASA advise.
