It's still early for registering, I would think. Around here, if you don't qualify for ASA National by playing in ASA qualifiers (not sure how that process is structured, as I don't call any ASA), then teams try to qualify for USSSA World Series by finishing 1st or second in a World Series qualifier (just about any USSSA tournament, it seems). We have ASA State in the NW corner of the state (Farmington, 7/11-7/13) and two USSSA State tournaments (one in Albuquerque, 7/11-7/13, one in SE corner of the State (Carlsbad) 7/11-7/13). I guess you can take your pick around here, ASA, USSSA Central NM or USSSA Southern NM. Should be a shortage of umpires that weekend.

And you wondered why the game went downhill? Umpires are there to be professionals and enforce the rules. There's no reason to be talking to the fans and chatter with the players and coaches needs to be minimal too.

Focussing entirely on the game at hand usually eliminates mistakes.

For those that are bashing USSSA, apparently you do not call U-trip and do not have a rulebook. There is almost no difference between USSSA and NFHS books, and thus only minor differences between USSSA and ASA. (Unless you consider the approved bat lists for USSSA a major difference!)

Now, if you are talking USFA - (Please stop snickering!) - their rulebook is a joke. You cannot seriously call a competitive tournament game using just their book. But they know it; they tell their umpires to use their NFHS or ASA experience and knowledge to make the calls.

Hmmm, I haven't really seen anything in this thread that I would consider bashing U-trip. A couple of lighthearted jokes based around previous comments that seemed to be directed more towards the organization than the rules.

Then again, they are not a softball specific organization.
