"TIME" is a suspension in play. "DEAD BALL" is the status of the ball. Yes, a "DEAD BALL" call does stop the game, but during a dead ball period, runners can be advanced or ruled out. That is not a common occurance during a simple suspension of play. |

Baseball and softball for many years. TIME works well for both. The important thing is not to call FOUL BALL because you haven't decided whether the batter was still in the box or not.
