If I understand this correctly, BR hits slow roller to F4, BR beats throw to 1B but only steps on white bag. Therefore, BR is called out on live ball appeal since F3 touched 1B before BR returned to 1B. I haven't had this, but came close this weekend in a tourney. Girl touched white bag only, but throw beat her, so she was out anyway. Told coach to make sure she knows to touch red bag when going to first.

NO.

You would only call BR out if F3 touched first AND appealed that the runner missed the base. What you are describing is what used to be called an "accidental appeal" in another similar smaller-ball sport, but even there is no longer recognized. A live-ball appeal must be an APPEAL, and it must be obvious.

I agree on your explanation of the appeal on the missed color portion going by....And is it also true that the runner can come back to either portion of the double bag before being appealed and be safe? If the ball is dead does it change anything?

1-Once the B-R overruns & then returns to 1B, she may return to either color as Fed looks at this as one double-sized base (when B-R returns to 1B).
2-Yes, think about this - if the ball is dead, where is the runner? Once the ball is dead, the runner is then on the base, so this appeal would not be made during a dead ball

Yes, true. The bag only has two halves during a play on BR before BR gets to first. Once BR has passed first, it's just one big base.

The concensus is that the defense has to make a live ball appeal before the runner returns to either portion of the bag to get an out?
