What you are describing is what used to be called an "accidental appeal" in another similar smaller-ball sport, but even there is no longer recognized. I agree on your explanation of the appeal on the missed color portion going by....And is it also true that the runner can come back to either portion of the double bag before being appealed and be safe? If the ball is dead does it change anything?
