I've been also hit on my ankle once in a FP men game. Was still a catcher those days, with extra protection on the ankles. Still it got swollen up and hurt a lot. Didn't walk or run then for two weeks.
On a direct hit with a speed over 100km/h the protection is minimum, I've experiënced... Bad luck can't be avoided. Debeau, still I'll hope you'll be back on the fields quick!
