Are there proper mechanics for........
1 man umpiring other than get your a** to the best angle possible? I have done plenty of two and three man, but, tomorrow night, due to a shortage of umpires in my area, I am calling by myself for the first time. If anybody has any suggestions, I am open to any and all help. Thanks guys and ladies.

I work a rec league where its all 1 man and all JV games in our area are 1man .. so I have a lot of experience in this.
Hustle out 3B side batters box in most cases and keep your eyes open. Hustle being the key word. In the slot, its relatively easy to watch runners at 1b and 2b to see if they leave early. Personnally, I like 1 man best. I definately feel its inferior coverage from an officials/players/coaches POV, but on a personnal level I like it.

I've just been assigned a handfull of middle school baseball games that use one umpire on a 90 foot diamond.
Should be fun! It's a good thing I have my ASA one-man mechanics to fall back on. The NFHS baseball umpire manual offers only two, three and four-man instructions. |

Thanks Dakota....
Woopigsooie...I just wanted confirmation before I went on. I too am from Arkansas and was wondering where there was a shortage. There are plenty around the Central AR area but there's a lot of work around here too. |
