Lookback Rule
What are the differences between the Lookback rule in USA, NFHS and USSSA? I had someone tell me there was a substantial difference. The only difference I can find between the rule codes relates to possession of the ball in the circle. (Glove between the knees with ball in glove). Is there another substantial difference I am missing?

With regards to USA and NFHS, the only difference I'm aware of is the one you mentioned regarding pitcher's possession. In USA, the pitcher possesses the ball when she has it in her hand or in her glove. She won't be in possession if she places the ball between her legs, under her arm, etc. NFHS still considers this possession.
I can't speak for USSSA since I don't umpire for that organization.

Overrunning 1B into Right field, turning and heading back to 1B.
NCAA allows the runner to break for 2B any time up until contact with 1B. All the others, if she's headed back to 1B and breaks for 2B at any time, she's out. (paraphrasing the books of course, but that's the main difference with NCAA) |
