Is it safe to assume that when the official reports, that if he gives a player number or specifies an individual, then it is direct; but if he just reports the infraction, then it is indirect?

I think you were trying to say it WAS an attempt.

It was an attempt, but the attempt was not prevented by an opponent, and the attempt was never RELEASED on a try. That is a travel.

Yes, I think, we don't have to distiguish between a pass or a try, but the "pass" still has to have the attribute of a try. Let me know if I got that wrong.

But just because A is true, doesn't necessarily mean...
